COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Wisconsin lowered flags at half-staff and observed a state day of service yesterday to remember nearly 3,000 victims of the 9/11 attacks. In Oshkosh, the EAA Aviation Museum hosted a free memorial presentation with first responder David Norman from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.—a memorial stair climb at Lambeau Field is set for Sept. 20. WBAY
- ➤ Oshkosh North High School students honored the 9/11 anniversary on Sept. 11 by devoting their day to community service—collecting donations in Ferry Crossing, helping at Tiny House Village, and cleaning Asylum Point Park. A film crew also captured the event to document how the community came together in remembrance. FOX 11
- ➤ Retired firefighter Dale Liebergen from Little Suamico recalled his drive to New York days after the 9/11 attacks to help an off-duty fireman who needed a ride—he spent two long weeks at ground zero and still feels the lasting pain of that tragedy. WBAY
- ➤ St. Joseph Food Program held a ribbon cutting and open house on Sept. 10th after nearly $2 million was raised—local businesses, foundations, and community members helped update client areas, donation entry, and staff offices. The remodeled facility now allows the food program to better serve more people. WTAQ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Six Oshkosh-area students advanced to the semifinals of the 71st National Merit Scholarship Program — a national contest recognizing strong academic performance. They now await further rounds in the competition. Oshkosh Northwestern
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Winnebago County officials held an early discussion of the 2026 budget at the Sunnyview Expo Center on September 10th to address a $10 million deficit. County Executive Gordon Hintz said the county will evaluate programs and consider new funding options (including a possible sales tax) to manage rising facility costs. WTAQ
- ➤ WisDOT's I-41 Project in Grand Chute will see the northbound Northland Avenue ramps open late Monday, September 15 using a diverging diamond design to reduce left turn crash risks—southbound ramps will remain closed until fall. WBAY
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Middlefield Original Cheese Co-op has recalled several cheese products sold at Aldi and Sam’s Club in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ohio and Texas because they might be contaminated with listeria—no illnesses have been reported, and the recalled items include organic gouda, cheddar, Swiss and other varieties sold from July 7 to August 14. - ➤ The Packers beat the Commanders 27-18 on Thursday night; Jordan Love threw for 292 yards and two touchdowns while Tucker Kraft caught six passes for a career-high 124 yards. Washington gained just 11 yards in the first quarter—showing a slow start to their game plan. WBAY
