- ➤ Yesterday, the Oshkosh Area School District held its Second Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration at Vel Phillips Middle School to honor Dr. King’s legacy with musical performances, essay contest winners and Torchbearer honors (from the Oshkosh Civility Project), a free event open to all. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Firefighters responded to a house fire at 924 W. 10th Ave on Jan. 18 that heavily damaged the home and left the family dog missing (cause under investigation) while a local business provided a warm space for displaced residents. Oshkosh Northwestern
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Oshkosh school board voted down an amendment to fire superintendent Bryan Davis last week amid budget cut debates + deep divisions among members. The decision means Davis will continue leading the district. WHBY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Assembly passed a bill to exempt up to $25,000 on tips from state income tax and it will move to the Senate on Jan. 21. Service workers, including those from local eateries & bars, could benefit if Gov. Evers signs it. WTAQ
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The new ThedaCare Medical Center-Oshkosh opened its doors Monday in downtown along the Fox River. The three-story, 114,000 sqft facility offers emergency, inpatient, outpatient surgery, primary, pediatric, and specialty care + imaging, lab, and pharmacy services after two years of construction. LIFESTYLE NEWS
- ➤ The 8th annual Restaurant Week began Monday in Oshkosh and runs through Feb. 1; 35 restaurants offer fixed-price meals (lunch at $18, dinner at $30, and $14 breakfast at select spots) and recommend reservations. WBAY

- ➤ Sydney Butz of Oshkosh will perform at a college football championship with the IU spirit squad as her senior season finale — she began baton twirling at age 2 and is eager to shine on a big stage. WBAY
