COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Former bishop Robert Banks, who led the diocese for 13 years, died Jan. 25 at his Kaukauna home at age 97 after a 73-year priesthood - his visitation will begin 8 a.m. Feb. 6 at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral with burial at Allouez Catholic Cemetery afterward.  Oshkosh Northwestern
  • The Boys and Girls Club of Oshkosh is hosting WineFeast 2026 on April 11 at the Oshkosh Convention Center from 5 to 10:30 p.m. — the event includes a five-course Cellar Select Dinner with wine pairings, a live auction, and a Night Cap, with all proceeds benefiting the club.  Oshkosh Northwestern
  • The Common Council approved a trackless train project at Menominee Park that will run during the zoo season, with registration at Lakefly Cafe and passenger drop-off at the zoo entrance. The train (costing about $100,000) is funded by a private vendor through the Oshkosh Community Foundation and will debut this summer.  WTAQ
  • Shelters in Fox Valley are expanding capacity for homeless residents as bitter cold persists. Day by Day Shelter in Oshkosh has opened 15 extra beds since last Thursday and will keep them available until warmer weather while Appleton shelters add extra spots with overflow support from local partners.  WTAQ

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire damaged the Starbucks on Oshkosh Avenue on Tuesday at about 6:45 a.m., as firefighters spent time on the roof tossing debris & officials reported no injuries while assessing the damage.  WHBY

HEALTH NEWS

  • Yesterday, the Tri-County Community Health Improvement Coalition released the Fox Valley Unified Health Report that consolidates data from Calumet, Outagamie & Winnebago Counties. The report shows a continued need to address mental health issues and spurred coordinated efforts such as ThedaCare’s SYNC program.  FOX 11
