CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Gary Banes—84, the prime suspect in his estranged wife Jeanne’s 1993 unsolved murder, died March 25 from Alzheimer’s disease, and investigators said the cold case remains active. WHBY
- ➤ Police arrested a 26-year-old man from Fond du Lac just before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in a business parking lot on W. 20th Avenue after he met an undercover officer posing as a teenage girl, and he now faces charges of soliciting a child for prostitution and human trafficking of a child — investigators also searched his home and seized several electronic devices. - ➤ A report from the district shows that teachers rate boys and students of color as more likely to face behavior challenges than the students report themselves. Director of Student Services Matt Kaemmerer explains that annual tests of social, academic, and emotional behavior reveal this gap in assessments + the findings highlight a need to review current evaluation methods. - ➤ Officials say that after the Menasha Joint School District backed out of a $1 deal, the UW-Oshkosh Fox Cities campus remains unsold and Outagamie and Winnebago counties must pay $400,000 a year each to maintain it if a buyer is not found before July 1. Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson said officials are working on transferring the campus to a new owner that may keep the Weis Earth Science Museum and Barlow Planetarium in the community. WTAQ
