EDUCATION NEWS

  • Marian University physics professor Michael Garvey was honored with the James Underkofler Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award for his creative teaching methods—using fun techniques like launching water balloons and stuffed animals—and his dedication to students. Marian senior Brandon Moore also received the 2025 Erroll B. Davis, Jr. Achievement Award for minority students, recognizing his leadership as captain of the baseball team and his academic efforts.  We Are Green Bay
  • UWO-Fox Cities will unveil the largest inflatable planetarium in Wisconsin today at noon in the campus fieldhouse. The portable planetarium, funded by a federal grant from the Institute of Museums and Library Services, will offer free shows every 45 minutes until 4:30 p.m. to reach schools too far from the Barlow Planetarium.  WBAY

  • Gov. Evers proclaimed May 3 and 4 as National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend and ordered flags to be lowered at half-staff on May 4, Sept. 27, and Oct. 11 to honor firefighters who died in the line of duty. The executive order sets key dates for remembrance — including the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service on May 4, the Final Alarm Ceremony on Sept. 27, and Wisconsin Firefighters Memorial Day on Oct. 11.  FOX 11
  • Wisconsin's statewide inland fishing season begins today for anglers 16 and older who must purchase a $20 license online or at DNR Services. The Wisconsin DNR introduces the new Wisconsin Fishing Finder — it reminds anglers to clean equipment and avoid spreading aquatic invasive species.  WBAY
