- ➤ Three community members died last week in Omro and the school district is offering counseling (inside and outside) to help students, staff, and families cope with the loss. WTAQ
- ➤ BikeOsh will celebrate its 10th anniversary as student partners from Oshkosh North High School lead a group ride through local parks, ending at the Leach Amphitheater; the event takes place Saturday, May 9 from 9 a.m. - noon. FOX 11
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ AirVenture Oshkosh was named Best Air Show on May 6, 2026 by USA TODAY 10Best Readers' Choice Awards, moving up seven spots from last year. The fly-in convention recorded 704,000 attendance and 962 exhibitors last year and is set to run July 20-26. Oshkosh Northwestern
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Alumna Mary Novak-Jandrey donated $10M to fund two permanent endowments for nursing and STEM education at UW-Oshkosh — the school will rename its College of Nursing, Health Professions, and STEM in her honor effective July 1. FOX 11
- ➤ Nearly 150 students competed in Solar Olympics in Oshkosh, showing off skills in building solar-powered cars + houses + art. The event, part of the WPS SolarWise program for 30 years, offered hands-on lessons in renewable energy and spurred interest in clean energy careers. WBAY
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On May 5, 83 conservation groups urged federal agencies to act against nitrate contamination in drinking water after a study linked high levels to health and environmental risks. They warned nitrate from fertilizers & manure has worsened water quality in agricultural areas, including among Wisconsin private wells. Oshkosh Northwestern
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Traffic on the Fox River bridge in Omro will drop to one lane for about 20 days starting May 13 due to Highway 21 construction, with westbound vehicles using the bridge and eastbound vehicles taking detours on Highways K, E and 116. FOX 11
- ➤ Oshkosh plans to buy the 17-acre City Center site for $12.5 million to redevelop it into new housing, commercial and public spaces while working with current tenants. City leaders will vote on the purchase on May 12, May 19 and May 26. FOX 11
- ➤ Rising gas prices have forced Winnebago and Outagamie counties to adjust fuel spending for essential services. Winnebago County is cutting non-essential use, while Outagamie County maintains current spending but will review its budget next year for potential rate hikes. FOX 11
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Oshkosh’s Plan Commission approved Woodman’s plan to replace the outlet mall with a 270,000 sqft store, gas station plus car wash pending Common Council approval on May 12. Construction is expected to begin next year if the plan passes. WTAQ
