- ➤ Christina LaVicka is developing the 497 Austin Alert to warn drivers within a two-mile radius of road dangers—honoring her son who died in a wrong-way crash. She is in early stages and seeks partners to help build the system. Oshkosh Northwestern
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ UW-Oshkosh has started several major construction projects this summer. The university is upgrading underground utilities — relocating the student health center during a residence hall demolition — and renovating Polk Library while planning to share updated pedestrian routes and parking details online. - ➤ The Menasha Joint School District is searching for a new superintendent after former leader Matt Zimmerman resigned to join Appleton’s district, with CESA 6 screening candidates on May 28 and the Board planning to hire mid-June for a July 1 start. FOX 11
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Neenah Foundry Company settled a $200,000 enforcement action on May 7 for alleged air pollution permit violations at its two Winnebago County foundry plants. The Wisconsin DOJ & DNR announced the settlement after investigating 18 alleged violations of state and federal regulations. WBAY
- ➤ Neenah Foundry agreed to pay $200,000 to settle alleged air pollution violations at its two foundry plants in Winnebago County. The Wisconsin DOJ said the company failed to maintain proper air pollution control devices and recordkeeping, and the Order for Judgment was signed on May 7. FOX 11
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A resurfacing project on WIS 21 is underway from Omro through Oshkosh with work through early November — causing detours and restricted traffic this week. Road projects in Oconto and Sheboygan counties also affect local travel from May 11 to May 15. WBAY
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Children’s Wisconsin Fox Valley Hospital in Neenah expanded its NICU with a new six bed pod, raising capacity to 28 beds to meet growing demand for specialized newborn care. The upgrade added improved family facilities + a new lactation room, private bonding area and custom jungle themed murals. WTAQ
