CRIME NEWS

  • Police in Oshkosh confirmed that 27 year old Walter Brooks was fatally stabbed during an altercation at Menominee Park Saturday night after officers responded to a traffic crash report — a 19 year old from Fond du Lac is in custody on suspicion of first degree intentional homicide.  WBAY
  • Oshkosh Police identified Walter Brooks—27 years old—as the victim of a fatal stabbing that occurred in Menominee Park in the 1200 block of East Irving around 11 p.m. on Saturday, July 5, after a large fight escalated and Fond du Lac Police later arrested a 19-year-old man for first-degree intentional homicide.  We Are Green Bay
  • On Wednesday, a 46-year-old Neenah man was arrested in Oshkosh after a police chase began around 2:10 p.m. near HWY 41 following a report of reckless driving, and he now faces multiple charges including felony eluding and resisting an officer—he was also linked to a recent single-vehicle crash in Winnebago County.  FOX 11

  • Tourism experts say Oshkosh is busy with summer festivals that boost local business, as Lifest began Wednesday and upcoming events like EAA AirVenture and XRoads41 are expected to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors and millions in revenue. Officials note that past events produced over $170 million in economic impact (with projections to exceed $200 million this summer) as businesses get ready for a busy season.  WBAY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Oshkosh Common Council approved a resolution Tuesday asking the state Legislature to allow a half-percent municipal sales tax in counties that do not currently have one + only Winnebago and Waukesha lack the tax. Council member D.J. Nichols said the measure will add revenue for hub cities like Oshkosh + council member Jacob Floam argued that discussions with Winnebago County leaders should come first.  WHBY
  • The City of Oshkosh voted Tuesday to end its ambulance service agreements for outlying communities — including the towns of Black Wolf, Algoma, Nekimi, Omro, Poygan, Rushford, Utica, and Winneconne, the village of Winneconne, and the city of Omro. The resolution also lets city staff negotiate new agreements for Algoma, Black Wolf, and Nekimi for 2026 and consider other fire and EMS options in 2027 and beyond.  WHBY

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Data from Realtor.com show that in April the median home sale price in Winnebago County was $265,000—2.3% higher than in March and 15.2% above last April. Recorded home sales rose to 185 for a total of $57.4 million in sales.  Oshkosh Northwestern
