CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Oshkosh police believed a structure fire at around 1 p.m. Saturday on the 1100 block of Pioneer Drive was a case of arson — crews found smoke and flames in a vacant building and investigators are asking anyone who saw suspicious activity to come forward. WHBY
- ➤ A fight at Menominee Park in Oshkosh led to the fatal stabbing of Walter Brooks by 19-year-old Daunte Riley on July 5—Riley now faces charges of first-degree intentional homicide and disorderly conduct with a court appearance scheduled Monday afternoon. WTAQ
- ➤ A 19-year-old man from Fond du Lac was charged with first-degree intentional homicide and disorderly conduct—charges that may lead to life in prison after he fatally stabbed 27-year-old Walter Brooks at Menominee Park in Oshkosh earlier this month. WBAY
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Archaeologists discovered a partially buried shipwreck in Oshkosh while searching the Fox River for the Berlin City this spring — they found the hull belonged to the wooden steamer L.W. Crane that burned and sank in 1880 and research continues. WHBY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State lawmakers from northeast Wisconsin introduced legislation Monday, July 14 at the Butterfly Garden of Wisconsin near Appleton to designate the endangered monarch butterfly as the state butterfly. Seventeen legislators support the measure—its intent is to boost awareness and protection for the species and its habitat. FOX 11

- ➤ Construction on the new ThedaCare Medical Center-Oshkosh is nearly complete at 250 W. 6th Avenue downtown — with flooring, painting, exterior glass, asphalt paving, and landscaping in progress. The hospital will open late this year and is expected to add about 60 new local jobs to serve the community 24/7. WTAQ
