- ➤ Today the Oshkosh Area Humane Society is seeking foster and adoptive homes for 10 long-term shelter dogs—some have waited nearly three years—as adoption slows in August and a local sponsor covers fees and food for four dogs. WTAQ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A new UW-Oshkosh survey shows that 82% of students had jobs lined up before graduation last year and 91% of Wisconsin grads stayed in-state to work. The study found an average starting salary of nearly $60,000—ThedaCare was the top employer. WHBY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City officials say the old Menominee Park train may be replaced in 2026 because rising repair costs and aging equipment make it hard to keep running. The Parks Advisory Board approved a plan for a new $100,000 train that will ride on wheels and the city council will vote on it in early November — aiming to lower annual maintenance costs. WTAQ
- ➤ WisDOT Northeast Region will host a live online public meeting at 4 p.m. on August 21 to review plans for repairing the Main Street Bridge over the Fox River in Oshkosh—detailing electrical, mechanical, and concrete work and noting the bridge will close to vehicles on Sept. 2 until April with detours provided. - ➤ Winnebago County is considering a 0.5% sales tax to fund repairs on government buildings and lower property taxes, officials said at Tuesday's County Board meeting. County Executive Gordon Hintz explained that the proposal is in early stages and the final decision will come in the coming months with public input—officials expect changes after further review.
