COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Nikolas DeGroot launched Politics in the Park this spring at Menominee Park and South Park to bring people with different political views together and encourage calm dialogue from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. daily — topics range from national issues like the Electoral College to local ideas on improving public spaces. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ 17-year-old Vautrell Section is charged with seven counts including attempted first-degree intentional homicide after shooting a 20-year-old man in the 600 block of Franklin Street — he appeared in court on August 14 and will have hearings on August 21 and August 25. FOX 11
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ School districts are still looking for bus drivers with less than three weeks before school starts—Lamers Fox Cities is 10 to 15 drivers short while Kobussen needs about 60 for routes in Oshkosh and nearby areas and both companies offer CDL training with hourly pay in the low-$20s. FOX 11
- ➤ Yesterday, NWTC graduated 10 inmates from Sanger Powers Correctional Center after they completed a training program lasting 15 weeks. Instructors said the course boosted their skills for future jobs—helping each graduate build a better path forward. FOX 11
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ WisDOT will host an online public meeting at 4 p.m. Aug. 21 to explain a $6 million project that will close Main Street Bridge for seven months—starting Sept. 2—and reroute drivers via Ninth, Oregon and Jackson.
