COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Since VenuWorks took over the Oshkosh Arena in August last year — the company has booked events like a Rock of Ages concert and will host a boxing match this Saturday. They plan to introduce new menu items and ticket packages for a better Wisconsin Herd season and will maintain a contract of five years when the building sells.  WTAQ

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Aug. 19 at 8:53 p.m., a mother and her one-year-old safely escaped from their car—submerged after the driver went over the median barrier—at Menasha Marina as three bystanders rushed to help and Menasha Police continue investigating the incident.  Oshkosh Northwestern

CRIME NEWS

  • Oshkosh police arrested a 20-year-old Menasha man—suspected in the August 2 shooting that injured a 19-year-old’s shoulder—and later searched his Grove Street home where they found two loaded firearms, a Glock .45 with a laser attachment and a MAC-10 style 9 mm gun.  FOX 11
  • Winneconne police arrested a 49-year-old Oshkosh woman with three outstanding warrants after stopping a suspicious vehicle near a daycare on Tuesday; all three residents admitted to recent drug use and officers recovered crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia—charges are pending.  WBAY
  • Oshkosh police arrested a 20-year-old man from Menasha Tuesday after they saw him trying to sneak out the back door of a business on N. Mall Dr.—he is held on suspicion of attempted homicide from a shooting on August 2 that hurt a 19-year-old—and police later found a loaded Glock .45 with a laser and a loaded MAC-10-style 9mm handgun at his home on Grove St.  WBAY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New flashing traffic signs were installed on Ceape Avenue near Fire Station #15 to remind drivers to yield to fire trucks backing into the station—drivers who ignore the signs may receive a citation as police and cameras monitor the area.  FOX 11
  • At a Tuesday meeting the Winnebago County Board of Supervisors discussed a 0.5% sales tax and agreed to draft an ordinance to be reviewed on Sept. 16 with a vote set for the October budget meeting and possible start by April 1; county officials said the tax is meant to lower property rates while generating about $20 million annually from both residents and visitors—community members have voiced mixed reactions to the proposal.  WTAQ
