- ➤ St. Joseph Food Program held a ribbon cutting and open house yesterday for its remodeled facility at 1465A Opportunity Way after a $1.95 million fundraising campaign updated client areas, donation entrance, preparation centers and staff offices—community partners helped with the project. Food pantry officials said the new building will expand outreach to serve more people. FOX 11
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Construction crews working on Pratt Trail uncovered artifacts dating back to 500 B.C. that halted work and sparked an archaeological dig by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee—Dr. Seth Schneider will share details during a free presentation at the Oshkosh Public Library from 6:30—7:45 p.m. Sept. 24. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Farmers in Northeast Wisconsin are expecting a promising corn harvest as fields thrive under an ideal mix of heat and rain — Diederich Farm reported one field already produced 25 tons per acre compared to 15 tons last year. Most corn still must dry before the full harvest begins. FOX 11
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources unveiled a revamped air quality map that shows all pollutant data in a single view—featuring an Orange or Above AQI filter—for simpler tracking after summer wildfire smoke. Craig Czarnecki said the update replaces the confusing old layout and aims to help residents quickly assess their local air conditions. FOX 11
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Winnebago County officials began 2026 budget talks on September 10th at Sunnyview Expo Center. County Executive Gordon Hintz said officials addressed a $10 million deficit and plans for redeveloping the UWO Fox Cities campus and aging facilities—public input sessions will follow. FOX 11
- ➤ Turning Point USA boosted Wisconsin politics by reaching college students and opening an office in Waukesha—its conservative campaign efforts were led by Charlie Kirk, who was killed on Sept. 10 at a campus event in Utah. - ➤ Nine municipalities in Winnebago County including Omro, Winneconne, Black Wolf, Nekimi, Poygan, Rushford, and Utica formed an ambulance district that will be served by Lifestar+ after Oshkosh ended its ambulance service due to staffing shortages. The district will fund coverage with a $40 per resident fee+ officials say the new setup ensures residents continue to receive timely care. WHBY
