COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Kate Stel has joined Oshkosh United Way as its new donor engagement manager—she will use her six years of nonprofit experience to build donor relationships and boost community growth. She earned degrees at St. Norbert College and the University of Chicago. Oshkosh Northwestern
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Patrick Behling, an apprentice electrician at Shea Electric & Communications, was named Apprentice of the Year by WI NECA’s Fox Valley Division. He joined the company in April 2019 and attended a one-week training session in Michigan as part of the honor. Oshkosh Northwestern
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Oshkosh Area School District is accepting applications until Sept. 19 for a new seven-month Academy program that gives community members a look behind the scenes of district operations + sessions will run Fridays from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Administration Office from October to April. - ➤ The U.S. Army Cadet Command announced on Sept. 11 that UW-Oshkosh's ROTC program will remain open—now run as an extension unit under Marquette University—after plans to close the unit this summer were changed following community feedback. Oshkosh Northwestern
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Amtrak is ending its daily bus service through the Fox Valley from Green Bay to Milwaukee via Appleton, Oshkosh, and Fond du Lac due to low ridership and the removal of $15 million in state funds; the buses will stop running on October 1. WHBY
