BUSINESS NEWS

  • Apple growers in Wisconsin had mixed harvests—northeastern orchards reported poor yields from a cold winter and slow pollination while growers in western and central regions saw better crops with apples like Honeycrisp and McIntosh. Rasmussen’s Apple Acres near Oshkosh opened on Sept. 16 for one week of pick-your-own apples as a slow season affected their usual output.  Oshkosh Northwestern

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh is in line for grants up to $1.4 million over the next seven years+ funds for freshwater training, research and hands-on student experience. The first award is $243,000 and must be approved annually+ confirming its role in preparing water science professionals.  WBAY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At a county board meeting on Tuesday, officials rejected a .5% sales tax proposal — they said it lacked a clear plan for funding specific projects and might burden working families. County Executive Gordon Hintz said the tax may be reconsidered if a detailed funding plan is provided in the future.  WBAY
