- ➤ Meteorologist Steve Ackerman will speak at the Oshkosh Public Library on October 1 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.—he will explain how satellites track weather patterns and aid emergency response. - ➤ Attorney—an Oshkosh native—Lara Hansen will lead a free three-part lecture series on the U.S. Constitution at Oshkosh Public Library starting Sept. 29, with sessions scheduled on Oct. 6 and Oct. 13 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The lectures will cover key periods including the Colonial Era, the Bill of Rights and Reconstruction, and the Civil Rights Era. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Fall has begun in Northeast Wisconsin as trees start showing color even though many counties still report little change, with places like Brown, Marinette, Forest, and Florence noted for low color. Observations from Travel Wisconsin and ExploreFall indicate that while some areas in the north are entering moderate color, the northern third will peak in early October & the middle and southern regions are expected to follow later. - ➤ Winnebago County will host five public listening sessions for its proposed 2026 budget starting today at UW-Oshkosh Fox Cities Campus in Menasha, continuing on Sept. 24 at Wittman Regional Airport, Oct. 7 at Omro Area Community Center, Oct. 8 at Winneconne Municipal Center and Oct. 9 at Neenah Police Department, all set for 6 p.m. County Executive Gordon Hintz will lead the sessions to review plans for employee pay increases, funding for homelessness prevention and fiscal challenges, as the county addresses a $7.2 million deficit — community feedback will help shape its strategy.
