COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Police Lights of Christmas is hosting the Cop-etition—where 17 departments take themed pictures under the 'Awkward Blue Family Photos' theme—to raise money for local charities. Donations will help buy gift cards and blessing bags while 120 departments work to reach a $250,000 goal by November 5.  WBAY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wisconsin tribal officials said that healthcare and education services are running smoothly so far as there are no major impacts from the federal shutdown. They are making plans—if the shutdown lasts—to keep key services running for their communities.  Oshkosh Northwestern
  • Oshkosh city council removed the two-reading rule so that pending resolutions can be adopted on their first appearance on the agenda—this change will speed up decision-making for local ordinances.  Oshkosh Northwestern
  • A new Wisconsin bill would fine people who falsely claim their pets as service animals—this proposal revises the state definition to match federal law and lets landlords require a prescription for emotional support animals in rentals. A public hearing has been held and the proposal will be reviewed further.  Oshkosh Northwestern
  • Gov. Tony Evers signed a bipartisan law—making it illegal to post AI-generated nude images without consent—that went into effect Friday.  WTAQ
  • Oshkosh hired Darla Salinas as its new city clerk and she will manage elections, licenses and legislative records. A former Fox Crossing Village Clerk for five years, Salinas will start on November 4—replacing Diane Barlett, who retired at the end of August, while the city also promoted Sara Rutkowski to community development director.  Oshkosh Northwestern
