COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Don Schumann and Joe Talamanco volunteer with Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin and deliver food shipments from the Appleton warehouse on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings—serving food pantries across 35 counties. They began their work as a pair in 2020 and plan to continue volunteering as long as they can. Oshkosh Northwestern
- ➤ Oshkosh will start its fall loose leaf collection Oct. 20, with residents having their leaves picked up the day after their regular garbage day—for example, Friday collections will see pickup on Monday. Leaves must be left loosely on terraces by 5 a.m. and include only leaves; collections may stop early because of weather or equipment issues. Oshkosh Northwestern
- ➤ Golden House reported that Wisconsin recorded 99 domestic violence homicides in 2024, with 11 in Northeast Wisconsin and 4 in Winnebago County noted in the highest totals in 25 years. The organization is hosting its annual Show of Strength fundraiser tonight in De Pere to support victims and offer raffle bidding options. WBAY

- ➤ The Wisconsin State Patrol warns drivers to watch for deer on the road as Sheboygan, Fond du Lac, Outagamie, Manitowoc and Winnebago counties rank in the state's top 10 for deer collisions—over 17,000 crashes in 2024 resulted in nine deaths and more than 700 injuries. WBAY

- ➤ On Dec 12, the EAA Wright Brothers Memorial Banquet will honor WWII airmen from the 100th Bomb Group and feature guest speakers Rebecca Crosby Hutchinson and Michael Faley — both sharing insights linked to the Emmy-winning Masters of the Air miniseries. Tickets cost $85 for members and $100 for non-members as doors open at 5:00 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m. Oshkosh Northwestern
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Oshkosh Area School District reported a drop of 185 students from the 2024-25 school year—officials plan to adjust budgets to cope with the lower enrollment. District leaders will study the decline and work on new plans to support the schools. Oshkosh Northwestern
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Oshkosh homeowners will see a lower property tax bill in 2026 — the average tax drop is about $91 for a home valued at $225,000. City Manager Rebecca Grill said the city held tax revenue at $47 million through cost-saving measures and increased state revenue, and residents can share their thoughts at a public input session on Nov. 4. - ➤ Governor Tony Evers said Wisconsin ended the fiscal year on June 30 with a $4.6 billion surplus—$265 million above estimates. Tax collections were $22.4 billion and the rainy day fund grew to nearly $2 billion. WTAQ

- ➤ The Oshkosh Area Humane Society stopped accepting cats because one in its care tested positive for feline distemper— a virus that can be deadly and is especially dangerous to young kittens. The shelter quarantines at-risk cats and will contact adopters if their pets may have been exposed. WBAY
- ➤ Neenah resident Gail Zeamer’s legacy lives on through Gail’s Law, a proposal to remove out-of-pocket costs for supplemental breast cancer screenings for women with dense breast tissue—an effort sparked by her own battle with Stage 3 cancer. The bipartisan bill passed the Senate 32—1 and now moves to the Assembly as lawmakers work to improve access to life-saving care. FOX 11
