ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Gas prices in Northeast Wisconsin increased after a refinery fire reversed the downward trend—GasBuddy reported that the Green Bay average rose 15.2 cents to $2.80 while Appleton saw a 17-cent increase to $2.75, and the national average reached $3.00. Analysts warned that though improvements are expected, pending trade discussions may keep prices elevated for a few more weeks. FOX 11
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Wisconsin DNR urged the public to check fire danger before burning as fall fire season begins, noting that over 50 wildfires burned 20 acres this October and most were human-caused and preventable. The DNR said dry weather, gusty winds and low rainfall keep fire risk high until rain or snow arrives — and it will staff fire equipment until conditions improve. WBAY

- ➤ Oshkosh officials plan to upgrade the Menominee Park Train to a modern wheeled design that is expected to lower maintenance costs and boost ridership after it attracted only 11,000 riders this season + city leaders have included the project in the 2026 budget and will discuss it at a public session on Nov. 4. - ➤ The Wisconsin Department of Health Services said on Oct 25 that FoodShare recipients can use any remaining funds on their cards throughout November instead of using them by the end of October. Officials have offered mixed guidance amid ongoing SNAP funding issues due to the federal shutdown. Oshkosh Northwestern
- ➤ Federal and non-federal employees are feeling the strain of a 27-day government shutdown as support services report more calls from workers worried about missing paychecks + the U.S. Department of Agriculture will not send SNAP benefits on November 1. Oshkosh Area United Way, one of seven northeast Wisconsin centers assisting families, urges residents to call 211 before emergencies worsen. WBAY
- ➤ A bipartisan group of state lawmakers proposed a bill today to expand online sports betting beyond tribal casinos—a measure that will require online servers to be anchored on tribal lands—to build on last year's record revenue of $13.7 billion. WBAY
