- ➤ The Community Blood Center is hosting a Season of Giving blood drive on Nov. 22, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, 1355 W. 20th Ave—each donor will receive a T-shirt and a meal while the center makes a monetary donation to the Oshkosh Area Community Pantry. Oshkosh Northwestern
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Oshkosh Area School District projects a $6 million deficit for the 2026-27 school year and will make cuts that may include staff reductions to sustain academic programs as enrollment declines. The board will discuss recommendations on Dec. 10 and finalize plans by Jan. 14—staff will be notified by mid-January. WTAQ
- ➤ The latest Forward Exam scores from last spring showed that 44 percent of students reached math standards and 45 percent reached reading standards, which is lower than the previous year. Some school board members said that changes in curriculum and the consolidation of elementary and middle schools may be affecting performance—raising concerns about future progress. WHBY

- ➤ Aurora borealis appeared across Wisconsin several nights from Nov. 11 to Nov. 12 and from Nov. 12 to Nov. 13 as a strong geomagnetic storm driven by solar maximum conditions lit the skies—experts said that improved smartphone cameras and social media have helped more residents capture and share the natural display. - ➤ Wisconsinites observed a stunning aurora borealis on Nov 11 and 12 when strong geomagnetic storms lit up the sky beyond usual northern views. The Space Weather Prediction Center provides forecast tools to help track future displays — residents should check local weather and head to dark areas between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. for the best chance to see the lights.
